When a woman’s plan went astray, her attempt to test her date’s generosity took an unexpected turn. She made the unusual decision to bring 23 family members on their blind date in an attempt to gauge her partner’s openness to sharing. But what happened next was nothing like she had expected.
Despite its audacity, the woman’s plan turned out to be poorly thought out. In an attempt to win over Miss Zhang, her date, Mr. Lui, had offered to take her and her family to one of his favorite restaurants. He was shocked, though, to discover not only her but her entire 23-person extended family there as well. Naturally, Mr. Lui objected to the idea of paying for such a big event, which created an awkward issue/
According to the local newspaper Taizhou Evening News, this embarrassing encounter took place in a restaurant in the province of Zhejiang in eastern China. Though dubious, the woman’s motivations were to see how eager Mr. Lui was to give and support her family. Nevertheless, given that it was a blind date, her implementation of the plan was far from flawless.
It became clear over the meal that Mr. Lui disagreed with the woman’s measure of generosity. Rather than taking on the bill with grace, he left without saying goodbye, leaving the woman to deal with the fallout on her own. It was a cruel ending for her test effort; the bill, which came to a significant 20,000 yuan (or $3,100), was now her duty alone.
Zhang did not, however, stop there. The partner even proceeded to sue Mr. Liu after feeling betrayed by the way the blind date transpired. Mr. Liu should only pay 1400 yuan of the whole sum, the court decided.
In retrospect, the woman’s attempt to gauge her date’s generosity turned out to be both costly and ineffective. Despite her good intentions, her strategy for evaluating Mr. Lui’s character backfired miserably. This cautionary story serves as a reminder that communication and honesty, rather than complex character tests, are essential in any relationship.
