Johnny Depp’s movie career is beginning to recover after a lengthy trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard, which was covered extensively in the entertainment media. The Hollywood favorite’s latest major directorial debut, Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness, has been receiving warm reviews in its early days. The actor is also succeeding in the music world, if only in a small, but unexpected, way.

On this week’s TikTok Billboard Top 50, Billboard’s ranking of the most-used and most popular songs on TikTok, Depp earns what appears to be his first hit. His track “By The Sea (Highlights Version)” debuts at No. 32 this time around.

The tune comes from the movie musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The film was released in late 2007, and it has now produced what may be the production’s first hit song on any of Billboard’s charts.

Depp fronts the cut, but he’s not alone in the win. Also credited on the song is Helena Bonham Carter, who likely also collects her first smash on any of the U.S. charts—and especially on the TikTok-only roster.

“By The Sea (Highlights Version)” is one of 15 debuts on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week. Depp and Carter snag the tenth-loftiest start of the frame, coming in behind tunes from artists like Jack Johnson, Odetari, Latto, and Ken Carson.

The Sweeney Todd track is one of several from musicals—both on Broadway and in film—that have reached the TikTok Billboard Top 50 in the past few weeks. Not long ago, a song from the Beetlejuice musical debuted, and earlier this year, a cut featured on the Oscar-winning movie Chicago debuted as well.

The Sweeney Todd musical movie was a commercial success, bringing in more than $150 million on a budget of a little more than $50 million. The soundtrack album peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard 200, which is a fairly lofty position for that kind of release.
